Tivoli Performance Viewer is a monitoring tool integrated in WebSphere Administration Console to monitor the health of a WebSphere Application Server.
To access TPV click on "Current Activity" under "Monitoring and Tuning" as in below screen
Note:- Below screenshots are taken from WebSphere Application Server V8. You may notice slight difference in other versions.
Once you click on "Current Activity" you will get the following screen.
In the collection status you can see different status notes. You will be able to monitor the servers only if the status is "Available".
To start monitoring a server click on the check box next to it and click on the button "Start Monitoring". You can even click on the link with the JVM name.
Once you start monitoring, the collection status will change as below.
If you try to start monitoring on a server whose status is "Unavailable, server stopped" you will get below error.
To view the monitoring details of a specific JVM click on the link with JVM name.
You will get below screen
Click on "Advisor" to get the performance recommendations.
You can log the performance datas, You can click on settings --> logs and specify the log file name and other details here. it provides an option to select the file format (either xml or binary)
As in below screen you can get a summary reports of various components. below is the summary report of a thread pool.
You can even monitor various modules.
Below screen provides you the performance parameters of "JVM Runtime" (FirstMember)
[Expand "Performance Modules" --> select the check box next to "JVM Runtime" ---> Click on the button "View Modules".
